The Last Guests by J.P. Pomare

2.0

Strapped for cash, Lina and Cain decide to put her grandfather's cabin up on WeStay, an app similar to Air BnB. Lina is apprehensive about this, and also the fact that she recently had an affair with Daniel, and he doesn't seem willing to treat it like a one-night stand like she does. Also, it would appear that a dark web site called Peephole is installing cameras into various houses for voyeurs to watch live streams, and Lina's cabin might just be one of them. This could lead to Lina's secrets being uncovered...and some much worse other things!

Boy, was this one predictable. It's a little better than a lot of thrillers being released these days, but not by much. No matter how hard the author tried, he couldn't convince me that this would end any other way than the way it did. It was just soooo predictable. Predictable, predictable, predictable. Did I mention it was predictable? If you've never read a thriller before, this may spring a surprise on you, but anyone else will comfortably figure out how this will end. Pomare's writing is good in that it kept me involved despite the fact that I could tell how things would play out or that I didn't find Lina to be all that likeable or sympathetic.

Did I mention how overwhelmingly predictable this was? I'll probably check out another book by Pomare, but I hope it isn't as by-the-numbers as this one was.
