What I'd Rather Not Think About by Jente Posthuma

emotional funny reflective sad

4.0

I liked this well enough. It was very readable and a good mix of humor, introspection and sadness in the same vein as Sorrow and Bliss or any of Miriam Toews’s books, but I like those other books much better. I don’t know if it was the translation or the original writing, but by the end, the book felt a little flat and tiresome. I also think it would have been ok for the author to stick to the family story instead of trying to broaden the scope by including historical and current events. It felt a little too surface level with those things. I still think it’s worth a read if you’re craving a sibling story that feels real.
