Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire
5.0
First off, I have to say this was an amazing read for a couple different reasons.
1) As an asexual person myself, it was beyond amazing and beautiful and happy to see the Heroine(!! Not a supporting character but the Heroine!!) was asexual! I loved that you included that and didnt have it become the reason for her existence, but let it be a part of who she was. So thank you thank you thank you for writing Nancy in such a way. :’)
2) I cannot lie, at times I felt like I was reading one of Diana Wynne Jones’ books. The cast of characters, how each of them were individuals with quirks, the way your story was told, and the idea behind it all of exploring the ‘after ever after’ was all the perfect mix of magic and reality and I loved it to pieces. While yes, the pacing was a bit fast, I found it enjoyable to have so much happening around Nancy that Nancy alongside the reader had to take moments of stillness to try and catch up with the rest of the cast.
I came for the exploration of after ever after and that is one reason this book will stay with me even after I’ve shelved and let it remain there while I continue on. But, it shall most certainly keep a special nook in my heart because of your brilliant characters and the fact that this was the first book I’ve read to ha e an asexual heroine. Thank you so much for writing this story and publishing it.
