Honestly…I had no idea what to expect going into this but I am left with an incredible feeling of wonder? Contemplation?
If you can say anything about me, it’s that I love a good character study and this did not disappoint. Broken up into 65 short chapters (seriously, all of them are maybe a page long), it’s incredible how evocative Baricco can be with so little.
Numerous times, I found myself atmospherically transported to W. Somerset Maughan’s The Painted Veil - very similar time and theme (to an extent).
Loved it. Will definitely revisit.
