I really wanted to like this one. The premise seemed fascinating and promising. But I HATED it. I wanted to quit at 25%, then kept wanting to quit until the end but at a certain point I'd put too much time in and couldn't not finish.
What I liked: The interludes from the perspective of ancient trees were AMAZING. Incredibly moving and beautiful. The story was a cool idea on the surface. And despite my dislike of the book overall, I'm realizing it changed my perspective. I can never look at a tree in the same way again.
What I didn't like: The dialogue was... Terrible? The book was going OK until the main characters started speaking to each other more. The story itself plodded along and the characters nor dialogue ever felt fully developed.
Unfortunately, the book as a while never felt as profound as the interlude poetry. Instead it felt contrived and choppy.
