I had a lot of fun with this book and the plot was so fascinating. This was the first time I've ever dipped into like East Asian culturally-themed books so the lore was all new to me and I found it to be so interesting and different from what I'm used to. I really liked it. And I especially liked the extra little stories that the author put in there that the main character Mina would tell. It was obvious how much storytelling was respected and even idolized in the culture and I loved that.
I also really liked the chemistry between Shin and Mina. They were so cute and Shin was so respectful and loyal. He's definitely one of my favorite male characters.
That being said, I do think that, at least the hinting of, the romance came up kind of quickly. I felt like she went from disliking him to immediately being interested in him. It was a little jarring when it came up.
I also predicted the big twist very early on. I think it was just too obvious when the scholar guy gave the prophesy unfortunately. But it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book and I actually really liked the ending and how Mina was so mature for a 16 year old in asking for one more year with her family.
Finally, I didn't really see much for character growth and character flaws in this book. I didn't really notice it while reading so it didn't affect my rating much, but that might have been why I didn't really connect with the characters as much as I would have liked. Each character was distinct and it wasn't like I mixed them up or anything, but it was difficult to relate to them without seeing any flaws or detriments to them at the same time.
Anyway, I still really enjoyed this book and I hope to read another one from this author again soon.
