The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

4.0

Okay... let's digest this book. First off, I was very nervous to read it because of all the hype around it on booktok. I was also very nervous because the people that I watch on Booktube seem to have a different opinion than Booktok. In fact, most of them really weren't impressed. A lot of them said the majority of it was very boring, and the end was extremely predictable So overall, I had no idea what my final thoughts were going to be on it! BUT WOW! WOW! WOW! Yes, I understand how people can find it boring. It was a very long book based around psychotherapy. Not to mention the actual murderer in question doesn't speak. However, I really enjoy exploring the minds of people that are drawn to doing unspeakable things! I want to understand what would make someone do something as terrible as killing their life partner! So that part was very interesting to me. Also, I definitely should have seen the ending coming. Now that I am done with the book... it should have been so obvious! But it wasn't! I was completely caught of guard! I couldn't believe it! It definitely made the whole process worth it! Also, like "Maidens" by Alex Michaelides, this had a very interesting greek mythology aspect. The specific story definitely made Alicia's seem sadder and more relatable. I really liked how that was incorporated into the wrap up of the story as well! Im not saying I would have done the same thing... but yeah I'd be pretty hurt too.

One thing I didn’t necessarily love were the gaps in the timelines and overall plot. I can’t necessarily mention specifics… but a lot of stuff just either happened and we were just expected to look past it, or it just didn’t make sense at all! Now that I’m typing this… I honestly can’t believe I didn’t see the twist coming, especially with these gaps! I’m kind of disappointed in myself!

If you are into psychotherapy, and understanding what makes damaged people resort to such awful things... I highly recommend reading this book! Trust me, you won't regret it!
