The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
5.0
Ammu, I TOTALLY get you.
Ammu is the mother at the center of this tragic story of a middle class Indian family in the late 1960s. This may very well be the most well written book I’ve ever read — both in form and content. The characters are palpable. That being said, it’s a challenging read...poetically meandering in time, often through the eyes of a child. I really meant it when I said “tragic.” You’ll need a dedicated box of tissues. Even though it broke my heart, I’m better for having read it.
