Lampie and the Children of the Sea
by Annet Schaap
5 stars
This was a book that I wasn't exactly sure if I'd like or not. I bought it on a book festival, mainly because of how beautifully illustrated it is, the cover and the book and it was styled in a way I haven't seen before.
The story is also beautifully told, telling it in the present tense certainly was a great idea because it fits the book so well. I really enjoyed the writing style and it basically flew by itself. I'm not that used to reading middle grade books and I'm always surprised by how quickly it reads.
Lampie was an amazing main character! I love her bravery and strength, how she always found a way through her troubles. And especially how selfless she was! Even all the other characters, August, Edward, Martha, Lennie, Nick, Emilia, they all had their flaws, including Lampie, and I loved reading about them and their flaws.
I will certainly keep this one in my posession and for sure reread it, one day. It is a very sweet story about bravery, friendship, pirates and mermaids and that is all you need from a good book!
