I read this book in French class and I thought the beginning was good and well laid out. During the middle, where Karim and Maha are traveling to chlifa it gets pretty boring. Their friendship does start to grow and they make jokes and have many arguments which are all realistic. But not much occurs until the goat dies and then so does maha. Then to finish it off, the book went back to Karim’s life in Montreal. I also thought that the end was nicely done because we got to see the 18 year olds point of view on his life. He talked about suicide and how we should all live for those who didn’t get the chance to. The message was nice in the book but the middle could have had more action.
