The Voyage of the Narwhal by Andrea Barrett
4.0

In the 1850's, a man goes on a journey to the Arctic with his soon-to-be brother-in-law as captain, only to find out about the evil that lurks in all men.

Erasmus, the main character, is very complex. Through out the 400 pages of this novel you see him hunker down into his personality, but view the world in as ever changing a way as the colors of light in an Arctic sunset. Andrea Barrett is an incredible writer to be able to write about such an extraordinary landscape and have her cast of characters still be the focal point. I had some issues with the book, especially the end, but I still found a way to recommend it to at least 3 customers yesterday.

If you're looking for a sweeping meaty book to read, this should be the one!
