I really like the idea of this book-and plot wise, I don't mind how it's carried out, either. I like the possibility of this backstory. However, I couldn't stand the "humor" in this book. Could.Not.Stand.It. It really didn't help at all that it was being read by my personal least favorite reader OF ALL TIME, who reads at least 1/3 of all middle grade books. This humor is equivalent to slap stick and I just can't handle it. I've never been able to handle it, even when I was young. I didn't start liking the book until it stopped trying to be funny, which was like, the last chapter of the whole book. I liked Peter, and I loved the ending, especially concerning Peter. The ending and Peter (who at least most the book is about) is why this book is getting a high 2 stars. Alf was OK, too. But all the side characters were pretty much pure rubbish. Oh, also, I'm more curious about porpoise's now. But that's about all.

Oh! I should also add that I really did like the leader of the Mollusk people as well, and the adding to and fleshing out done with that story. Also, the mermaids were cool, and it was clear to see why everyone likes Peter so much.
