All That Moves Us: Life Lessons from a Pediatric Neurosurgeon by Jay Wellons

4.0

I found this book very moving and Dr Wellons very humbling. I chose the audio and loved to hear him narrate these stories personally. Not being a doctor myself, I can only imagine how hard it is to balance that fine line of knowing you hold the lives of others in your hands AND humility. Dr Wellons appears to walk that line exceptionally well. His shared stories are of remarkable feats of talent deployed (by many) and his ability to provide the view from his patients and their families was quite insightful. I won't ruin it by sharing any of the stories but let's just say that family reactions can run from the utmost of gratefulness to those who feel that doctors really are superhuman and that if a patient dies, the doctor is assumed guilty and they and the world needs to pay for their loss. I also found his medical descriptions in the book very interesting!
