The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff

4.0

Romans had style. That’s what I understood after reading this book. Another thing that I understood is that if I’d read this novel when I was in my early teens, I would have been soo impressed by it, but I had my Treasure Island in those years.
The Eagle of the Ninth is a great young adult history adventure. It has a ton of detail, a great atmosphere of Celtic-Roman Britain, interesting characters, and, of course, mystery and adventure. It is also a novel of becoming - making choices, living with the consequences of your actions, accepting who you are, and becoming a person you want to be.
The book got me curious about Rome, again. I’ve already added some books to my TBR list, and really need to restrain myself because I have Medieval times and Regency going on for me now.
