A Reaper at the Gates
by Sabaa Tahir
4.5* There is a casual brutality that permeates this series. Life in this word is harsh and death is widespread. This entry was the strongest so far, very well paced, with lots of action, twists and character development. I also like the way the story is told by rotating perspectives of Laia, Elias and the Blood Shrike Helene (who is definitely, the most interesting and likable character). Things are pretty desperate at the end of this book and I look forward to seeing how it is all resolved in the finale.
