The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie

5.0

I am no public speaker but this book is relevant to everyone, no matter if they are planning to give a public speech or not.

Public speaking as an art, like any other art, consists of different, nuanced, interconnected yet separate elements, that are woven together in order to produce the effect the speaker desires. With full mastery of these components, Syeikh Hamza Yusuf remarks that: "If you learn these three [Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric], you will be a formidable force in the world".

This book could also be viewed as a 'self-help' book. Dale Carnegie not only talks about public speaking but also stresses the public speaker himself. This balanced approached of speaking/speaker makes the read much more relatable and relevant. So please, throw away those trash self-help books to turn you into a narcissist and help yourself to reading works that truly inspire greatness.

Overall, I had a hard time digesting the book, partly because much of it demands for me to get outside my comfort zone. Nonetheless, the effort invested was well worth the insights gained.
