Owls of the Eastern Ice: A Quest to Find and Save the World's Largest Owl by Jonathan C. Slaght

4.0

I am not sure how I heard about this book but somebody that I really trust must have recommended it because I don’t think I would picked up a book about fish owls that live in a remote part of Russia on my own. The author fell in love with this part of Russia while he was in the Peace Corps and became fascinated with fish owls. His doctoral project was to study fish owls and determine the best way to ensure their survival. The book chronicles his multi year project which took him to the forests of Russia in mid winter and all the very unique people he met and the sometimes harrowing circumstances he went through all to study these owls. I listened to this on audio and really enjoyed listening to the author. He definitely got me interested in learning more about owls and about that part of Russia.
