zachwerb 's review for:
Masters of Atlantis
by Charles Portis
This book is fantastic. I love have portis does not play into any idea of american exceptionalism and instead using these average american blundering about his "hidden" knowledge of Atlantis. I felt like very little even happened in the book but it was very exciting to read. I would suggest if you want a weird american romp, the kind that is actually fun to read and not overly wrought with ideas of the american complex or whatever.
A great companion piece to this is the sadly cancelled Lodge 49. A show which focused on regular people and their quirks. Something this book does amazingly well.
