The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

2.0

Again, the same book as Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code, but another exciting read. I did predict one of the major twists for the first time, but it didn't detract from the excitement. I read this one immediately after reading Angels and Demons, which I unknowingly read for the first time right before Lost Symbol came out, and reading the two back-to-back was a bit too much pseudo-intellectualism for me; I also had to laugh at one point when Robert Langdon complained that another character was being overly dramatic about something, considering that all three of the Robert Langdon books are continuously melodramatic and constructed of cliffhanger followed by cliffhanger followed by cliffhanger of extreme superlatives (the most dangerous, most frightening, most dreadful, most most most...) that usually resolve into less-than-satisfying minor advancements in the plot. I think I was a lot more critical because I didn't have a break between Lost Symbol and Angels and Demons, so my nerves were already a little frayed. But again, it's an exciting and fun read, and probably a satisfying break from a more literary reading list.
