My journey into the world of Terry Pratchett has finally begun. I know that everyone seems to suggest that a new reader should not start with the first book, but to me The Colour of Magic was the perfect introduction into the Discworld. Reading The Colour of Magic felt like reading the transcription of an amazing DnD session with characters both basic and absurd, a cool magic system and world-building with a twist. The book is divided into four parts, each detailing the adventures of the wizard Rincewind, the tourist Twoflower and Twoflower's luggage. Although these adventures felt a bit disjointed and not having chapters took some adjusting to, Pratchett's writing style more than made up for this. Without realising, pages and pages flew by and the different parts of this book started to feel like chapters in themselves. What I loved most about The Colour of Magic was its humor. Pratchett has the ability to make you laugh out loud every few pages. Witty dialogue, slapstick comedy, satire, puns. The Colour of Magic had it all. Knowing that the Colour of Magic was the first book Pratchett wrote in the Discworld series, I just know it will get better and cannot wait to carry on. The little introduction to Death certainly promised a lot of good to come.
