The Notebook
by Nicholas Sparks
Read: 2005-2006? Somewhere around that time.
Rating after re-read: ★★★
Re-read: April 5, 2020
3 stars. I don’t know what it is, but this story has never done it for me. I don’t care for the film and I don’t care for this book still after all these years. I love cheese and sap, but this is just too sappy even for me and that’s saying a lot. The ending is beautiful though and I got a little emotional but other than that this just wasn’t that exciting of a read. I don’t have too much emotional attachment to neither Allie nor Noah and because of that I had trouble caring about their romance, especially in the past. I was a bit more interested in the present day stuff but there’s not nearly enough of that unfortunately.
I’m not sure why I’ve decided to re-read Sparks’s work this year but I do genuinely like his writing and find his books to be very fast and engrossing reads. I’m having fun re-reading his books and I’m excited to get to some of his more recent releases.
