Legend by Marie Lu

9/10

This book was so much fun to read and I enjoyed the tension throughout the novel. I really liked how both of the main characters experienced so much growth along this journey. I especially like June's path as she is challenged to rethink her beliefs. I also enjoyed the world building and was able o vividly picture the surroundings. For the first book of Marie Lu's that I have read, I am pleased that I enjoy her writing style. One small thing that tended to let me down was that I struggled to visualise the characters faces - although this could just be me.

Goodreads categorises this novel (predominantly) as a YA romance. For me, personally, I would call this novel more of a dystopian political novel which dabbles in sci-fi. The romance, although meaningful, takes a back seat in this novel. Going in I expected more romance, which I think is why I can't give it a 10/10 because it didn't meet those expectations. Possibly a controversial point here, remember this is just my opinion. This didn't stop me from enjoying the book immensely.

I am definitely going to read the rest of this series.
