My heart hurt so much for Grace and her unrequited love. She had been crushing on her boss for years before she finally decided it was too much and she gave her notice. He was angry but we didn't get to understand the full extent of why until much later in the book.
At her last office party, she sneaks into Gabriel's office to say goodbye to it all and finds him sitting in the dark. He unexpectedly takes her on his desk and then leaves. A while later, she finds out she's pregnant and when she comes back to talk to him about it, she gets turned away. So she returns back to her new home to raise her babies, yes twins!
Fast forward a few years and Gabriel runs into another ex employee that reveals she had been pregnant and Gabriel goes to check on her and as soon as he sees the kids, he knows. They get off on the wrong foot and everyone is mad.
What followed was a frustrating road to happily ever after with a conniving mother thrown in there to make unneeded drama. Gabriel was selfish and demanding, like he had the power or right to just swoop in and uproot Grace and the kids. She stood firm and did the best for her babies in a tough situation. I'm so glad that Gabriel learned the error of his ways and chose to step up and actually parent his kids. And poor Grace was still just trying to protect her kids and her own heart from heartbreak. It definitely took a lot to get them to their HEA but after their initial issues, they worked together and also grew in their own respects and love for each other.
I enjoyed this read and am so glad I decided to pick up the full version after having read the short in her collection.
