Rachel's Holiday
by Marian Keyes
So honest and raw. It felt really validating to see on paper the embarrassing thoughts that we have but would never say out loud.
The writer did a great job of making the reader feel as if they were Rachel, I’ve never suffered with addiction to the same level, however, I felt as if I had and was going through it all as Rachel. It was also clever in throwing in scenarios that most readers probably have experienced to some level, again making you feel closer to Rachel and more understanding of addiction.
There were some real gut punchers in there which wouldn’t have had such an impact if the writer hadn’t spent the time making that bond between Rachel and the reader. When Luke said he never loved Rachel I literally felt my heart sink.
It made me reflect on certain times and relationships in my life. I think this book will stay with me for a while, which is funny because I picked it thinking it was a simple girly romance beach read type of thing.
Oh it’s also really really funny.
My to read list has practically been wiped so I can read all the rest of the Walsh novels. I’m dying to jump straight into Again Rachel but I think I should maybe read the others first?? Aghh
