johnnybuonomo 's review for:
Antony and Cleopatra
by William Shakespeare
Lots of vivid and interesting characters. The death scene,.. scenes,.. act was moving, awesome (in the old sense), but also kind of bizarre. At first I didn't pick up on some of the humor of it, but reading it as both humorous and sad works well. Great histrionic speeches, of course. I realize the Ptolemaic themes in the metaphors are doing important work but there were a few times when it felt a bit distracting.
Certainly worth reading and rereading. I don't know why this wasn't more of a staple of my education. Maybe just Fortune's fault.
