The Washing of the Spears: The Rise and Fall of the Zulu Nation
by Donald R. Morris
A very good read although somewhat dated. For a more accurate account of the fight at Isandlwana see Mike Snook's "How Can Man Die Better: The Secrets of Isandlwana Revealed". Lt. Col Pulleine most certainly was not killed in his command tent while composing a letter. He died defending his camp. Morris makes much of a lack of ammunition for British defenders which Snook and others have subsequently dismissed.
