amiegee 's review for:
This is an autobiographical account of a man with Asperger's Syndrome - a very high functioning autism. In addition, he is a mathematical savant (very few autistic individuals are like this). A couple of years ago I read [book: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time], which is written from the perspective of an autistic boy. I was so intrigued by that book, that I definitely wanted to read this one. I didn't enjoy this one as much. They are very different reads, one fiction and one not.
I was very impressed by this author's ability to describe what it is like to be in his head. He also has a much better understanding of himself and how he can impact others than a typical Asperger's individual. He has worked hard to "work around" his syndrome and I think it is pretty remarkable. He has definitley accomplished more than people expected him to. As a researcher at heart, I thought the discussion about how he thinks and processes information was fascinating. He is truly a scientist's dream! Luckily, he is interested in allowing people to study him to learn more about the human brain. Overall a good book that I would recommend to anyone interested in this subject.
