Updated review: Is it fair to judge an autistic character that was written that way accidentally. Upon looking up information about this book it turns out the author didn’t have a disability in mind for Christopher and doesn’t knew a lot about autism. But still let’s look at his character traits:
*Lack of social interaction
*Intense in one subject (science and mathematics)
*Love of animals
*Sensory Overload in loud crowded spaces
*Lack of understanding jokes and phrases
*Hard reading facial expressions
Also an important note is that never in the book is his disability named but on back of most copies they say it’s Asperger’s.
So is it fair to judge considering autistic actors have played in the stage adaptation?
Original review: Even though Christopher falls in to the person on the autism spectrum being a mathematical genius stereotype this was still a fun read. In case you’re wondering I suck at maths.
