Delicious in Dungeon, Vol. 11 by Ryoko Kui

adventurous dark emotional tense medium-paced

4.5

I have many things to say abt how Ryoko Kui draws the winged lion, but let’s just say I would fall victim to it in .03 seconds.

And I don’t know if this is a popular sentiment, but Ryoko Kui should dabble in horror more. Besides masterfully drawing unsettling creatures that would otherwise appear pretty normal, she has a great grasp of all the elements required to make a page truly horrific (her next page reveals tend to be abrupt though… these become even more noticeable in the succeeding volumes, but I’d understand considering the amount of details she has to work with and… the deadlines). I’d even argue that it’s how she gets to shine even more, which was SUCH a pleasant surprise because obviously most of us did not expect Dunmeshi to get this dark.

TL;DR I think Ryoko Kui is one of the only artists that could make a monster that you could fawn over (among other things…. monsterfuckers unite!!) AND make your stomach turn. Usually it’s just one or the other.
