Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery
4.0

Anne of Windy Poplars:

I didn't enjoy this book at all, and as I've just found out maybe it's because it wasn't written in chronological order with the other books (the seventh book written of the series, the fourth chronologically). As much as I love Anne I didn't love the letters she wrote to Gilbert which took up too much time, I would have much more enjoyed reading about her time as a Principal.

While this was given at times, this book just didn't feel like an Anne book. I didn't recognize Anne, she seemed child-like and sensitive and not the woman she had become in Anne of the Island. Probably my least favourite of the series.
Anne's House of Dreams:

I enjoyed this book so much more than Windy Poplars! It felt like an Anne book! I loved the diverse characters, it was almost as if Anne were back in Avonlea. I enjoyed the little snippets of history in the book, including mention of how women were not able to vote at the time which really put things in perspective for me considering there is an election tomorrow.

It was also funny to read about what couldn't be mentioned in books at the time, like pregnancy, so to let the reader know Anne is pregnant she has a character make her a baby garment and another chapter has a very detailed opening of the stork visiting.

It's funny to see how things have changed.
