This book really took a while to get going for me. I almost DNFed it but had gotten far enough in that I didn’t want to give up. I wasn’t really vested in the MCs so didn’t really care if they got their HEA. The first half just dragged for me.

Then when the narrative started to shift and it became less whiny and redundant things started cooking…and I’m not just referring to the steamy scenes. The narrative picked up, there was reflection, there was emotional growth, there were important (though selfish) realizations, there was character development and relationship growth. Everything started clicking.

You could see the crisis point coming a mile away and when it happens it is gut wrenching. Some of the elements of the denouement I saw coming but others were a major plot twist. A plot twist that reinforced and multiplied my feelings for one character.

The ending is both sweet and sad. I’m guessing there was some foreshadowing of another couple in another book. I hope so because that looks like it has the potential for a good story. So a slow start but a great end.
