I'm not going to dispute the book's status as a literary masterpiece - this is carefully crafted literature. However reading the novel again after I first read it when I was 17 I wasn't only amazed by the number of details I had overlooked back then but also stunned by the outright antisemitic description of Wolfshiem. I couldn't belief that I overread "The swastika holding company" back then during my first reading. A very uninventive exploitation of ancient stereotypes and contemporary Antisemitism in the US in the 1920s undeserving of an author striving to create sth unique and at the cost of others. So looking at it from today - minus one point.
