notvibing 's review for:
City of Glass
by Cassandra Clare
As always with books I've read before I don't quite know how to review them. Like all other Mortal Instruments books I've read City of Glass before, but it was a few years ago and my taste in books changed a bit.
I think the first half or so of City of Glass is my least favourite part of the first three Mortal Instruments books and that is mostly due to the characters. Clary and Jace are the most annoying people ever, no wonder everyone is sad and off to do crazy shit if they don't talk to each other. Isabelle is also not a very likeable character in this book to be honest (even though I usually like her a lot).
As shit as he is, I like the introduction of Sebastian. For one, because he's an interesting character (who makes the lives of all my faves hell) and because I know that I like the last three books of the series more (character-wise that is, plot-wise I don't have big problems with any of the books).
I'm so glad that Alec is one of the few characters in this book that actually DOES shit. He's so much better at it than Clary or Jace. He and Magnus together will always be some of my favourite parts of the series.
Clary also finally showed her strength and she found out about a million more truths. What made reading this book so painful was knowing all the secrets and seeing the protagonists acting stupidly just because they don't know what's actually going on. I'm so glad they know so much more now.
What I still don't like about Cassandra Clare's books are the unnecessarily long descriptions of bloody everything. I just can't stand it. While reading I often skipped whole paragraphs / jumped to the next dialogue line because I don't need to read ten sentences on someone's emotions that are actually quite clear from the dialogue itself.
Otherwise I really liked being back in this universe, even though I don't think I still love it quite as much as I used to three years ago.
