SPOILERS!!!!

Favorite character:
Papa/the man; there weren’t many characters in this book but even then I still really loved Papa’s character. His tough/hardened self against his love for his son was amazing. I appreciate that he wanted to shield his son but was still honest with him about the hardships they were facing. His death at the end had me sobbing 😭 I knew one character was going to die at the end but even then I still couldn’t stop myself from being emotional.

Favorite scene:
along those lines of the father’s death, my favorite scene was at the end with the son mourning him. I felt scared and sad along with the boy. Both father and son knew he was going to die and couldn’t do anything else to stop it. I am crying again just thinking about it 😭

I wanted the two of them to live on forever. I thought that once they got to the south they would have a plan but realizing the father didn’t made me just realize how doomed they were.

Thoughts/Feelings:
It was such a tense and sad book! The journey was so stressful and it really shows how mundane/boring it would be to travel in an apocalyptic setting. The moments of action were cool but the struggle for survival mostly against the elements was really interesting to see.

There were so many different elements that really worked well together and just makes me want to know even more about this world. We don’t know the name of any character, don’t know how this apocalypse started, know some things about the elements that maybe lead to the wasteland but nothing that seemed really confirmed.

I can’t recommend this book enough. This was my first read from McCarthy and I am excited to read others by him
