The Familiar, Volume 5: Redwood by Mark Z. Danielewski

5.0

Redwood is a stellar conclusion to the first season of The Familiar. No experimental author of our time -- possibly ever -- knows how to tie up loose ends better than Danielewski. Like a slingshot, the first four volumes of the Familiar held us captive in growing tension, Volume 5 acting as the release of the Nightmare Stone into the wild. So many questions are answered in Redwood, and so many more are opened. It is enlightening, frightening, and also heartbreaking. But it fills my heart with joy to know that Danielewski's Redwood from so long ago, has found its place in the Familiar. I know Volume 5 will keep me up many nights, wondering how the characters I've come to love so much, are faring. while I wait for Season 2.
