Moving Maverick
by Lucy Lennox
This was cute enough, and thankfully, the crazy old ladies weren't around as much in this one. However, I had major issues with poor Maverick's history. His parents were killed in a car crash when he was 13, and although terribly wealthy, and they seemed to be close, and she's often referred to as "a saint" by the townspeople, Mav's grandmother not only didn't choose to raise him herself, she gave no explanations, and never contacted him again! She left a poor, orphaned teenager alone, to be raised by foster parents. We did finally find out why, near the end of the story, but I found her reasoning to be utter bullshit.
I also hated the way the townspeople seemed to react to Maverick when he came home to settle her estate. They acted almost like he'd left her, not the other way around, and like he owed them something. Or like he was a gold digger, just there to get his claws into her estate. It just pissed me off.
I did like Maverick and Beau, but I thought they jumped into sex WAY too fast. There was no UST at all. They meet for the first time as adults, after being best friends as kids, and are already getting off together the next day. What follows, for me anyway, was too much sex and not enough getting to know each other as adults. Fifteen years have gone by, neither has any idea about the men they have become, but that doesn't seem to matter.
It just didn't really work for me, so I'm rating this 2.5 stars, bumped up, although it could really have gone either way for me.
