Pirates! Abduction! Poison! As action-packed as all of Ms. Bev’s books are, Dominic LeVeq and Clare go on an adventure I won’t soon forget.

The commentary on the type of lives Black people lived during the time period (widespread too, as this covers the American south, Martinique, Britain, and international waters) is vivid, and the focus on finding joy in the midst of all that is so important.

Dominic is a respectful pirate, a total hottie, and a simp for Clare. I approve 😂
