This book, a retelling of the Goose Girl fairytale, caught me off guard. I actually hadn't heard of the fairytale before coming across this book, so I was a little clueless going into it, but even if you don’t know the background, you can still follow the storyline. It snatched my attention and made me unable to put my iPad down (I read the ebook through Libby). I was supposed to be reading it for a book club and I definitely did not follow the timing guidelines… oops. I think this book was intriguing to me because there was magic involved (I love fantasy LOL), there is a brave/ badass main character, there’s a lot of interesting politics and discussion about “justice” and privilege, and there’s a talking horse… what more could you want?? OH and also a prince with magic powers who is super wholesome and respectful… the bar is on the floor, but still. I am so glad I was able to find some escapism in this book and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future. I am also excited to read Theft of Sunlight, the sequel.
