A Broken Blade by Melissa Blair
3.0

Maybe I went into this with too high expectations... RTC

Full review: This is probably closer to a 2.5, but I'm rounding up to 3. The first 100 pages of this dragged to the point I almost DNF. I'm not even sure I'm glad I continued honesty.

I did end up liking the main 4 characters who formed a crew to get a job done. There are some really great moments between them all. I even enjoyed the romance.

I respect the messages the author is trying to convey and the critiques it makes at similar fantasy novels, and that was probably the best part of the entire book.

For some reason, the writing style did not work for me at all and that was the hardest part for me to get past. For the type of story it was trying to tell, along with some of my favorite tropes, it really should have been a 5 star read for me. I'm disappointed it wasn't.

Even with the cliffhanger (or big reveal) at the end of the book, which wasn't too surprising, I don't have any motivation to continue on.
