Every Mended Heart
by Nik Knight
TRIGGER WARNING: This book features on page sexual assault, car accident resulting in death, death of parent, mentions of suicide, past references to child abuse, and homophobia/homophobic language.
Nikole Knight finishes off the Far From Ruined trilogy in a finale that had me crying at one point. However, Silas and Ben's story continues to have as much heart and beauty as it has since book one and continues to be beautifully written.
After Eric Boyt sent pictures of them having sex to everyone in the school at the end of the last book causing Silas having to come forth about Boyt's attempted assault, cracks have formed in their relationship. Silas blames Ben for making him speak up, for everyone knowing what he's been through, even though he doesn't want to blame Ben. The relationship is on thin ice and both boys are deperately clinging to what they want - each other - while trying to navigate the landmines that fill their day to day life after Boyt's latest attack.
This book is honestly harder to get through for me than the others, but at the same time I did NOT want to put it down. The light hearted moments of romance in book two are fewer, but they still exist. The chemistry between the two boys still crackles. They are still realistic eighteen year olds handling stuff that is far out of their depth in a way that feels very much like an eighteen year old would.
But damn was it painful.
This book took me on a full emotional roller coaster, but I was incredibly satisfied with how it ended. Not only would I recommend this book and this series to people, I already have.
