We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor

2.0

I have experienced that mild pain of reading a book that never had its jokes land with me. I think that the reader must be older than their mid-20s (me), at the bare minimum. I was never one for pop culture references anyway, and that is like a third of the book. (Colonel Butterworth saying anything, especially something serious, was pretty much always amusing, though.) Although brief, I liked the linguistic drift examples for a future Earth, and the scenes that muse about personhood and humanity. Conflict-wise, I feel that Bob is overpowered- his intelligence makes it clear that he will (sometimes very quickly) come out on top. This is abated somewhat later on, with more complex conflict.
