The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams

5.0

I listened to this book on audible and thoroughly enjoyed the story with a fictional spin on the history of the dictionary.
Esme's story was heart-warming and heartbreaking. I loved how this character was flawed in ways that allowed growth and encouraged exploration. Parts of her journey felt brushed over, though that may be a by-product of listening to the audio rather than reading the pages, but overall, I feel I got to know Esme and her friends in a way that made them feel like my own.
Lizzie was perhaps my favourite. A voice of reason, but also loyal, kind, and willing to do anything within her power to protect her friend.
Historical fiction continues to be one of my favourite genres and I am glad I finally made time for this story.
