I have had this series on my queue for a while, and it kept getting pushed down. I decided to break it out and give it read. I have enjoyed Rachel Van Dyken's other books, and this is one of her most popular series so I was excited going in.
I guess I always thought that this was a badass mafia series. Which, I guess maybe it becomes that... In book 1, these kids are in College (18-21). Can the Mafia be in college running the world?
Eh... not a believer, nor am I a fan of NA so that threw me off. I am in my 50s and I just don't enjoy reading about 18 year olds. Not to mention, 18-21 year olds that apparently run the city. I just can't. It's not the story it's me. I can see the appeal to others, as a matter of fact I recommended it to my son's girlfriend (who is 25), but for me this is a big ole "nope".
This is kinda bully, kinda of suspense, kinda of a lot of things with the potential for mafia down the road. Aside from the NA aspect, I didn't really care for Tracey the heroine. She cries ALL THE TIME. I have a 23 year old daughter, I know girls get upset but damn. There is was a lot of crying.
This book will have a appeal to many others, just not me. I couldn't suspend belief for this one and the heroine wasn't my fave. I won't keep reading but that doesn't mean it isn't your cuppa tea.
