Fragile Democracy: The Struggle Over Race and Voting Rights in North Carolina
by James L. Leloudis, Robert R. Korstad
challenging
informative
reflective
fast-paced
Leloudis and Korstad have written a succinct yet nearly comprehensive history of North Carolina politics, how they historically depended on and defended white supremacy, and the coalition structures of Black, Brown, and poor white North Carolinians that have worked to maintain competitive politics and keep NC a purple state. I could go on with specifics, but it’s a (high quality) short read and therefore I would recommend everyone just read it for themselves!
