Magic Shifts is a book I have had for a while waiting to be read. I didn't want to make a start on it and have to put it down for review books, I just wanted to concentrate solely in this one. The perfect time came when I had two weeks off work, I could sit and read, using the extra hours I had, and not worry that it would affect my review books.
After leaving the Keep, Curran and Kate have just 30 days left before the separation is final. But just as they are settling into life away from the keep, George comes to them, asking for help. Helping George may mean crossing paths with the Peep, it may also bring them a whole lot of trouble...but since it IS Kate and Curran, are we really surprised about that. Kate and Curran can't turn their friend away, and promise to do all that they can to help George, but as the investigation continues, things are not what they seem.
Magic Shifts was just as awesome as the previous books in this series were, but this one blew it out of the water. Throughout this series we know that Rowland's presence has always been a shadow over Kate, and the build up to this meeting, this battle of sorts, has been a long time coming, especially after the events in the previous book. Without a doubt, this clash between this duo was sure to be spectacular, and let me tell you now you will be amazed by how spectacular it is.
Seeing the characters grow though this series has been great. Each new book only makes them stronger, more mature, but also brings them even closer to your heart. But the author takes no prisoners, and each time you start a new addition to this series, you never know who is going to be sacrificed, which character will lose thier life, or who will have a very close call. Julie is someone who I adore. Seeing how she has grown so much, not only in confidence, in her belief in herself, but also her attitude. Some of the come backs and reasoning she had for Kate had me laughing out loud. I really do love this girl.
Magic Shifts also shows you who Kate and Curran's friends are, who are willing to stand by them till the end, to leave thier safety behind in the Keep and join this duo. When you read this book you will see what I mean when I say thier friends are never far away. The situation with Kate had me worried, a lot. She is lost and feeling alone and worried about her home, her family, her city. It was touch and go whether things would turn out alright in the end or not.

Magic Shifts is a book you HAVE to read, but make sure you have a few days spare to read nothing, as you are left with one hell of a book hangover when you finish this.
