I decided to read this book after watching wicked part one in theaters. I fully understood that the book was very different from the theatrical version, and that was true for sure. I definitely enjoyed the book, but thought at times it was a little slow, and that could just be my own preference. Lots of people talking about things but not truly doing much. At first i didnt really like the way elphabas story ended, i thought that she lost a lot of her motivations and was reduced to “crazy”/“wicked”. But on reflection i think the book does a good job setting her up as someone who had a traumatic life and at the end is just desperate to hold on to the one thing she thought she could control (the shoes). Overall I would recommend this to people who liked wicked but who are interested in learning more about the politics of Oz, rather than those looking for more grand displays of magic and power from the wicked witch of the west.
