My Brother's Teammates by Melissa Ivers, Lasairiona McMaster
3.0
2.5*
It was an overall "okay" read. There isn't anything notable about it, so I really don't it will be a memorable one for me. The hockey trope is very saturated now, so unless the characters or plot really stand out then it just fades into the background.
I really didn't like the whole main conflict/plot for this! The brother being the one to create all the secrets and issues of why they can't be together?! And the way he treated the MCs and the things he said about his own sister...NOPE. It just wasn't for me, and I can't understand why she would sacrifice her own happiness, other peoples happiness all for her brother. You don't need people in your life that treat you like that, or that make you think so lowly of yourself. It also didn't feel like he apologised enough to her, or came across as overly sincere. So personally, I skimmed parts as I just couldn't be bothered to read some of the bits with the brother in.
The MMCs were okay, I quite liked the overall idea of them but I think it was fairly shallow and there wasn't a lot of depth to them. Some of their story is repeated, but you don't actually get to see much into their lives...Teo has regular film nights with his Mum so it would have been nice to include that and have him opening up to her about it all. Get a little bit more depth, but also some vulnerability too.
It also felt odd that the relationship was based on the 4 of them as a whole, and two of the MMCs relationship together but not the FMC and her individual relationships with the MMCs. The relationship progression is fairly minimal, with barely any romance. The one dinner date scene had potential, until it mainly became focused on the build up to the spice.
So I think if you wanted a fairly easy read with not much to the plot and romance, then it is a good one to pick up in between reads but I don't think I will continue if they make it into a series with the brother.
