This book was exactly what I needed to get back to my fantasy roots, having grown up loving YA fantasy series, while having a more adult spin on things. The world building, plot mysteries, and character development, are reminiscent of The Hunger Games but has its own unique characteristics that makes you want to learn more with every page. The only reason this fell short of 5 stars for me was because of a few plot holes (although I’m hoping these might be explained by later books in the series, but we’ll see). I started book 2 immediately after finishing!
