A Curious Beginning

A Curious Beginning
Main Theme: An adventure to find ourselves
- I'm not sure if Adventure is a genre or theme, but I call it both for this book. While the two main characters are never in one place for too long, the biggest conflict of adventures occurs within these two fascinating creatures themselves, whether they are too stubborn to admit it or not! Both Veronica and Stoker have changed because of each other, only in a matter of days because of the overall crisis as well as doing life together. A fascinating character development of true, honest companionship.
- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ star rating: I was completely into the romance and fruity character personalities and want to find out what lies ahead! 👏🏼👏🏼
- Genre: Historical Fiction with romantic quirks
I typically have been reading thriller mysteries that wouldn't be classified as historical or romantic. I can say I was thoroughly surprised that I enjoyed this book and finished it as quickly as I did. It was harder for me to follow, personally, because of my lack of basic historical knowledge. If you are a person who does like it basically historical knowledge, you may have to read this one a bit slower than usual, as did I. The timeframe fits perfectly with the characters and the problem in the story. The main character is a strong feminist scientist who will have nothing to do with her illegitimate father, even if he is the Prince. She is extremely strong-willed, and it is amusing seeing her personality flower during the time period where women are beginning to become more noticed as intelligent contributors to science and other such subjects.
- Style: First, the beginning is not too slow, once you get past the funeral. I am rather used to King's style of shorter chapters but longer sentences, so Raybourne's longer chapters and shorter sentences were a bit different from what I am used to. I had to stop in the middle of dialogues, which are long, making bookmarking and returning a bit difficult if you like to read in places where you are frequently interrupted. Otherwise, the overall style of the book is dominated by heated dialogue between the two main characters or else heated action scenes.
- Details or Gaps?: The author is driving all the readers mad by all the ladies screaming aloud "KISS ALREADY YOU STUBBORN BABOONS!!"
Am I mad? Yes...and no. So, yes I want MORE details about the romance and her backstory. But that's all positive not negative!
- Mood: The mood seems overall fairly light for a plot line of such seriousness. The character do seem a bit non-plussed, but I expect that's supposed to make them look like the regular BA characters, amiright? Stoker is your typical bad boy character and Veronica is your not-so-typical princess in distress. Veronica's character makes this book unique as a strong woman who is independent but can still enjoy companionship and assistance from an attractive male.
Overall, I thought the book was pretty butt-kicking awesome with adventure and romance with a blast of healthy feminism that even I can enjoy. I plan on reading the next book in the series.
