Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh
2.0
slowly but surely coming to the realization that most "weird" books are not for me. there definitely are some that i jive with (see: Bunny, Death Valley, Ripe) but for the most part, i just get frustrated. i felt TERRIBLE for Eileen, i really did. but once she would hook me with an emotional and thoughtful stream of consciousness, she would just make no sense at all. regardless of if that was the point or not, i didn't like it. i like to be able to root for an unlikeable character (again, see the above references) but when it's taken to a point of apathy, i have a hard time getting behind it. although i typically like Moshfegh's writing, this one fell really short for me. disappointing, but at least i'm honing my taste.
